Mahant — महंत

The head of a math, temple or akhada branch, responsible for seva, property and succession.

A mahant is appointed by lineage succession or by the akhada council. The role combines spiritual leadership with administration of the institution's assets and rituals.

Titles vary by order: shri mahant, bada mahant, and gaddi-nashin for the seat-holder of a math.

महंत — अर्थ

मठ, मंदिर या अखाड़ा शाखा का प्रमुख, जो सेवा, संपत्ति और उत्तराधिकार का उत्तरदायी होता है।

महंत की नियुक्ति परम्परागत उत्तराधिकार या अखाड़ा परिषद द्वारा होती है। इस पद में आध्यात्मिक नेतृत्व के साथ संस्था की संपत्ति और अनुष्ठानों का प्रबंध भी आता है।

पदनाम भिन्न होते हैं — श्री महंत, बड़ा महंत, और मठ की गद्दी के लिए गद्दीनशीन।
