Ekadashi — एकादशी

The eleventh lunar day of each fortnight, observed by Vaishnavs with fasting and extra worship.

Observed twice a month, ekadashi involves abstaining from grains and beans, extended nama-japa, and reading of the day's mahatmya.

Major ekadashis such as Nirjala, Devshayani, Devuthani and Vaikuntha (Mokshada) draw large temple gatherings.

एकादशी — अर्थ

प्रत्येक पक्ष की ग्यारहवीं तिथि, जिसे वैष्णव उपवास और विशेष पूजा से मनाते हैं।

मास में दो बार आने वाली एकादशी में अन्न और दाल का त्याग, अधिक नाम-जप और उस दिन का माहात्म्य श्रवण किया जाता है।

निर्जला, देवशयनी, देवउठनी और वैकुण्ठ (मोक्षदा) एकादशी पर मंदिरों में बड़े आयोजन होते हैं।
