The holiest month for Vaishnavs: deep daan, Kartik snan, Dev Uthani Ekadashi and the ceremonial marriage of Tulsi with Shaligram.
Kartik begins with lamps floated at river ghats and ends with Tulsi Vivah, after which the marriage season opens in the samaj. The tulsi plant in the courtyard is decorated as a bride, a shaligram or a Krishna image is the groom, and the whole neighbourhood is invited. Families who cannot hold a wedding at home participate at the samaj bhawan. Chaturmas vows end on Dev Uthani Ekadashi and sadhus resume travel.
कार्तिक का आरम्भ नदी घाटों पर दीपदान से होता है और समापन तुलसी विवाह से, जिसके पश्चात् समाज में विवाह ऋतु आरम्भ होती है। आँगन की तुलसी को वधू रूप में सजाया जाता है, शालिग्राम अथवा कृष्ण विग्रह वर होते हैं, और सम्पूर्ण मोहल्ला आमन्त्रित होता है। जो परिवार घर पर आयोजन नहीं कर सकते वे समाज भवन में सम्मिलित होते हैं। देव उठनी एकादशी पर चातुर्मास व्रत पूर्ण होते हैं और साधु पुनः भ्रमण आरम्भ करते हैं।
