Jagadguru Swami Ramanandacharya

The acharya who brought Sri Sampraday teaching to north India in the people's language and accepted disciples from every community.

Ramanand is remembered in devotional literature as a teacher of Ram bhakti whose legacy became central to Ramanandi identity. Accounts of his life and disciple lists were composed and transmitted in different periods; historians debate their chronology, his relationship to Sri Vaishnava lineages and the development of Ramanandi institutions. Later Ramanandi ascetic organisations, including Ani akhadas, have their own layered institutional histories. The terms Bairagi and Vairagi also refer to varied regional ascetic and householder communities, rather than a single uniform lineage.
