His Gita Govinda gave Vaishnav devotion its musical vocabulary and is still sung in temple seva across India.
The Gita Govinda set the madhurya mood of Radha-Krishna devotion in twenty-four ashtapadis, and became part of the daily seva at Jagannath Puri and many Nimbarki and Vallabh temples. Jayadeva's ashtapadis shaped Odissi, Kathak and Bharatanatyam repertoire and gave later poets — Vidyapati, Chandidas, Surdas — their model. For the community his work is the bridge between philosophy and the bhajan actually sung at a jagran.
गीत गोविन्द ने चौबीस अष्टपदियों में राधा-कृष्ण भक्ति का माधुर्य भाव स्थापित किया और जगन्नाथ पुरी तथा अनेक निम्बार्की एवं वल्लभ मन्दिरों की नित्य सेवा का अंग बना। जयदेव की अष्टपदियों ने ओडिसी, कथक एवं भरतनाट्यम् की रचना-सामग्री गढ़ी तथा विद्यापति, चण्डीदास एवं सूरदास जैसे परवर्ती कवियों को आदर्श दिया। समाज के लिए उनकी रचना दर्शन और जागरण में वास्तव में गाए जाने वाले भजन के बीच सेतु है।
