Author of Ramcharitmanas, the book that carried Ram bhakti into every home of the Hindi belt.
Tulsidas belongs to the Ramanandi parampara and wrote in Awadhi so that the Ram katha would not stay locked in Sanskrit. Ramcharitmanas, Vinay Patrika, Hanuman Chalisa, Dohavali and Kavitavali together form the devotional syllabus of the samaj. He founded the Sankatmochan temple at Kashi and shaped the Ramlila tradition performed every year in Bairagi villages. In practice, no other single figure determines how the community prays, sings and teaches its children.
तुलसीदास रामानन्दी परम्परा के हैं और उन्होंने अवधी में रचना की जिससे राम कथा संस्कृत में ही बन्द न रह जाए। रामचरितमानस, विनय पत्रिका, हनुमान चालीसा, दोहावली एवं कवितावली मिलकर समाज का भक्ति पाठ्यक्रम बनाते हैं। उन्होंने काशी में संकटमोचन मन्दिर की स्थापना की तथा रामलीला परम्परा को रूप दिया, जो आज भी बैरागी गाँवों में प्रतिवर्ष होती है। व्यवहार में कोई अन्य एक व्यक्तित्व इतना निर्धारित नहीं करता कि समाज कैसे पूजा करता, गाता एवं अपने बालकों को सिखाता है।
